At HB Technologies, we believe in the power of people, and when the opportunity came to take part in Shave for a Cure 2025, our team didn’t hesitate to step up.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of Shave for a Cure, the signature fundraising event for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand. Every day, eight New Zealanders are diagnosed with blood cancer, including leukaemia, lymphoma, or myeloma. These cancers can strike anyone, at any age, with no warning. That statistic hit close to home for us, and we wanted to do something that showed our support not just in words, but in action.
A Team Effort With Heart
Earlier this month, our Napier office transformed into a pop-up barbershop, buzzing with clippers and packed with encouragement. In total, eight team members shaved their heads and one embraced a bold new colour. It was a powerful and visible show of solidarity with those facing blood cancer.
A huge thanks goes to Dan Reyland, our National Services Manager who got us all organised and supporting this great cause. Dan commented ahead of the event, “It’s amazing to have so many of the team actively involved in such an important cause, but it doesn’t mean enough without the support behind us.” His message reflected the team-wide sentiment leading into the day: collective action and community support make all the difference.
Stephanie George, our CFO, did most of the shaving and also coloured her own hair pink, supported by Tony from Milton Andrews, who generously donated his time and talent to make the transformation happen. “It’s more than just a bold new look; it’s a symbol of solidarity, strength, and hope,” said Steph. “From the bottom of my heart, thank you for standing with us.”
We’d like to give a special shout-out to those who took part: Dan Reyland, Duncan Wallace, Andre Clarke, Stephanie George, Bailey Gravina, Martin Bernard, Jacques Haviga, Maxim Squire and Zachariah Hull. Your courage, energy, and dedication helped inspire everyone around you.
Across the Country, United for a Cause
While most of the action happened in Hawke’s Bay, distance didn’t stop others from taking part.
Managing Director Duncan Wallace was travelling down south at the time, but in true HBT style, dialled in live and shaved his head at Treble Cone Ski field, right on top of a mountain. A fitting symbol of spirit and commitment.
Chief Commercial Officer Andre Clarke was in Wellington and when the time came, he headed straight into local barbershop Boar and Blade and joined the movement with a fresh shave of his own. “Two hours to go until the hair comes off,” he posted. “All for a great cause. Thanks again to everyone who has supported the HBT crew.”
Because the Strongest Teams Show Up
Shave for a Cure was more than just a fundraiser for us. It was a chance to come together, honour those affected, and raise vital funds for research and support services through Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand.
Thanks to the generosity of our community, clients, and wider network, Team HBT has raised over $5,200 so far; with every dollar going directly to supporting families impacted by blood cancer and funding life-changing research. “Your kindness truly makes a difference,” said Duncan in a follow-up post.
It’s not too late to contribute… If you would like to donate, you can support Team HBT here!
To Everyone Who Donated – Thank You
We’re incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received, and we’re proud to be part of a movement that’s helping to make a difference, one head at a time.
